Obi Condemns Renewed Killings, Calls for End to Cycle of Insecurity

Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the renewed wave of violent attacks across Nigeria, describing the continued loss of lives as unacceptable and a national failure.

The latest incident occurred in Niger State, where at least 42 people were reportedly killed in a terrorist attack on Kasuwan-Daji Market in the Domo community of Borgu Local Government Area on Saturday.

In a statement on his X handle, Obi expressed deep concern over the killings, noting that the cycle of senseless violence and insecurity continues unchecked across the nation.

“It is deeply worrisome and unacceptable that, as we usher in a new year, the cycle of senseless killings and insecurity continues unchecked across our nation,” Obi said.

The former Anambra governor recalled similar attacks recorded in several states within the past few days, noting that armed bandits struck Bong village in Doemak District of Plateau State, attacked communities in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, and also assaulted the Unguwar Naino community in Katsina State on New Year’s Day.

“These incidents form part of a disturbing and tragic pattern of violence that has sadly become normalized,” Obi said.

He described the repeated failure to protect citizens as a national shame, stressing that government’s primary responsibility remains the protection of lives.

Obi called for an urgent, coordinated national response to insecurity, saying Nigerians deserve decisive leadership.

“What Nigerians urgently need is an all hands on deck approach a coordinated, capable, and decisive effort to end the menace of insecurity that has become a daily occurrence,” he said.

The former governor offered condolences to families affected by the attacks across Niger, Plateau, Kano, Katsina, and other states.

He called for an end to the cycle of violence and reaffirmed his commitment to national renewal.
