FCT Police Introduce Wellness Checks for Personnel

The Nigeria Police Force Federal Capital Territory Command has begun a comprehensive wellness assessment programme for officers aimed at monitoring their psychological wellbeing, stress management, and general health condition.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the exercise is focused on promoting officer welfare and ensuring personnel receive professional medical guidance where necessary.

“We are carrying out health assessments to determine the physical condition of officers as well as evaluate emotional wellbeing and stress-related challenges so experts can provide the necessary support,” he said.

Sanusi clarified that the programme is purely supportive and not designed to victimise, shame, or profile any officer within the command.

“This exercise is strictly for the benefit of our personnel. It is not meant to ridicule, intimidate, or single out anyone,” he stated.

According to him, the initiative will become a regular exercise, with periodic health reviews planned for officers across the command.

“Under this administration, personnel welfare remains a priority. These evaluations will continue regularly because health concerns can emerge at any time,” the CP added.

He explained that the assessments may be conducted quarterly or at shorter intervals depending on recommendations from healthcare professionals.

Sanusi also revealed that the command is already gathering important information from the programme to strengthen welfare policies and improve operational support for officers.

“We are already receiving useful feedback that will assist the command in planning and providing better support structures for personnel,” he said.

The programme commenced with officers under the Metro Area Command and will later be expanded to other formations across the Abuja, including Life Camp, Kubwa, and Kuje.

The police commissioner further assured personnel that all records and assessment outcomes would remain private in line with professional medical standards.
