Peter Obi Marks Obi of Onitsha’s 85th Birthday with Tribute to Leadership

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has congratulated the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, on his 85th birthday, describing him as a symbol of responsible leadership, wisdom and national service.

In a goodwill message released on Friday, Obi said he joined millions of Nigerians, sons and daughters of the Onitsha Kingdom, and admirers of traditional leadership in celebrating the revered monarch on the milestone.

He described the traditional ruler as “a shining symbol of dignity, intellect, humility, and selfless service,” adding that his reign had continued to prove the relevance of traditional institutions in national development.

“His reign has continued to demonstrate that traditional institutions are not relics of the past, but vital pillars for peace, moral leadership, cultural preservation, and national development,” Obi stated.

The former governor said the life of the monarch remains a strong lesson in character, discipline, compassion and service to humanity, especially at a time when societal values are increasingly under pressure.

“In a society where values are increasingly challenged, His Majesty continues to stand tall as a moral compass and a bridge between tradition and modern nation-building,” he said.

Obi also praised the monarch’s professional accomplishments before ascending the throne, noting that the Obi of Onitsha has consistently demonstrated that excellence, integrity and patriotism can coexist in leadership.

“The Obi of Onitsha has shown that excellence, integrity, and patriotism can coexist in leadership,” he added.

He prayed for continued good health, wisdom, peace and strength for the monarch as he continues to serve humanity and inspire future generations.

The Obi of Onitsha, one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional rulers, has remained influential in cultural preservation, national discourse and community development throughout his reign.
