President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after securing 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primary.
The result was announced on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
According to Anyim, the primary election was conducted on Saturday, May 23, 2026, across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas, and 8,809 wards in compliance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Electoral Act, and the APC constitution.
He disclosed that 12,643,316 party members registered for the exercise, while 11,069,746 members were accredited to vote. Out of the accredited voters, 11,015,665 valid votes were cast during the primary.
Tinubu’s challenger in the contest, Stanley Osifo, polled 16,503 votes.
Anyim said the collation process was handled in Abuja by designated collation officers, many of whom were governors from different states, adding that the process was transparent and allowed both aspirants to challenge results where necessary.
“The process was fair, credible, and in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines,” he said.
Following the announcement of the results, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented Tinubu with the party’s certificate of return and symbolic flag before party leaders, governors, ministers, lawmakers, presidential aides, members of the National Working Committee, and other stakeholders.
In his acceptance speech, Tinubu thanked party members and leaders for what he described as a renewed mandate and confidence in his leadership.
“In accepting this nomination, I renew my commitment to serve our nation with even greater determination,” the President said.
“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation,” he added.
The President said his administration remained committed to strengthening the economy and expanding opportunities for Nigerians through ongoing reforms.
“Our economy has undergone significant structural reform, supported by new tax laws and fiscal policies that have boosted revenue collection for the federation,” Tinubu stated.
“We promised to remove the financial barriers to higher education for our youth. Today, we have established the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, with over N282 billion disbursed and over 1.5 million beneficiaries,” he said.
Tinubu also called on APC members to remain united ahead of the 2027 election and continue promoting the achievements of the ruling party.
“I urge every party member to take pride in what we have achieved together since 2015 and especially in the last three years. We must take our message of progress, reform, and national development to every community across Nigeria,” he said.
The President expressed appreciation to APC governors, members of the National Assembly, the presidential primary election committee, the National Executive Committee, and party supporters nationwide for supporting his candidacy.
