The meeting highlighted Germany’s support for the Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP), which both sides described as critical to Nigeria’s energy transition and development goals.

Discussions also focused extensively on the ongoing repatriation of Nigeria’s ancient Benin Kingdom bronze artefacts as well as collaboration surrounding the Museum of West African Art.

“We discussed extensively the ongoing repatriation of Nigeria’s ancient Benin Kingdom bronze artefacts and the Museum of West African Art,” the statement added.

Both countries also pledged to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties, with Nigeria acknowledging Germany’s strategic importance as a key trading partner.

“Germany remains Nigeria’s second-largest trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa and we are committed to working closely to ensure our two countries continue to mutually benefit from a strong, dynamic and rewarding partnership,” the ministry said.
