The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work on the ongoing reconstruction and expansion of the 43.65-kilometre Mararaba–Keffi Road, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure across the country.
Umahi spoke during an inspection of key road projects in the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State, including the Mararaba–Keffi Road being handled by China Harbour Engineering Company.
“This is highly commendable. The quality of work is evident, and I encourage you to sustain this standard through to completion,” the minister told the contractor.
The minister also praised JRB Construction Company for the quality of work on the emergency rehabilitation of the Abuja-bound section of the Mararaba–Keffi Road.
According to him, the project is progressing well and is expected to be completed ahead of the March 1, 2028 deadline, with additional features such as solar-powered street lighting.
Umahi reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to end the era of abandoned and poorly executed projects, stressing that contractors must adhere strictly to approved specifications and contractual obligations.
“If you encounter any difficulty, inform us immediately. The Federal Government remains committed to meeting its obligations, including timely payments. However, quality must never be compromised.”
He further directed contractors to complete all unfinished sections of the road before embarking on additional asphalt works, noting that incomplete stretches have delayed several projects nationwide.
“Our priority is to deliver durable, safe and fully serviced infrastructure that will serve Nigerians for decades.”
The minister also inspected Section II of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road being handled by Infiouest International Ltd, noting that outstanding works are scheduled for completion by November 12, 2026.
Lawmakers who joined the inspection, including Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Allwell Onyesoh, Chairman of the House Committee on Works, Akin Alabi, and member representing Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency, Jeremiah Sa’idu, commended President Bola Tinubu for accelerating infrastructure development across the country.
They described the projects as strategic investments capable of boosting economic growth, improving connectivity, facilitating trade and strengthening national integration.
The Federal Controller of Works in the FCT, Mohammed Usman, also praised the level of commitment shown in the execution of the projects.
“The Minister’s hands-on leadership and consistent supervision have contributed significantly to the steady progress and quality delivery being witnessed on these projects.”
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement for the North-Central Zone, Abiodun Essiet, said the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerians through investments in critical infrastructure and other people-focused initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the contractor, Managing Director of JRB Construction Company, Jamilu Ogunbola, said the firm’s involvement in the Abuja–Keffi Road project demonstrates the growing capacity of indigenous companies to deliver complex infrastructure projects in line with international standards.
“Our participation in this project reflects the increasing ability of local construction firms to execute major infrastructure projects while meeting global best practices.”
The inspection tour underscores the Federal Government’s determination to ensure the timely completion of critical road infrastructure projects under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a focus on improving connectivity, economic development and the quality of life of Nigerians.
