“As a Yoruba Woman, I Was Raised to Accept Polygamy” – Morayo Afolabi-Brown

Former TVC presenter and media personality Morayo Afolabi-Brown has said that as a Yoruba woman she was raised to accept polygamy and that she has no problem with it, as long as she and her children are not neglected.

The remarks came as she spoke about the possibility of her husband taking another wife, a conversation that has since sparked reactions online.

Speaking during a recent episode of Brown’s Couch, Morayo explained that growing up as a Yoruba woman, she was conditioned to understand that polygamy is a possibility in marriage.

According to her, the idea of a man taking more than one wife is not unusual in many Yoruba homes, and she has always acknowledged that it could happen.

“I don’t mind if you become a polygamist. As a Yoruba lady, I have been conditioned to understand that it could be a possibility,” she told her husband during their conversation.

Despite her openness to the idea, Morayo stressed that she has one condition. She said she would only object if she or their children were neglected because of the arrival of another wife.

Her remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating whether cultural upbringing should influence modern marriages and whether they would accept a similar arrangement.
