Obi Donates ₦15m to Madonna University, Urges Students to Prepare for Leadership

presidential candidate Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian students to prepare for leadership, saying the country’s future depends on a new generation of leaders with character, competence and compassion.

Obi made the call during the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative held at Madonna University, Okija Campus, where he spoke on the theme, “Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders.”

Addressing the students, Obi said many young Nigerians have been denied opportunities by poor governance and corruption but encouraged them not to lose hope.

“Leadership is the greatest determinant of a nation’s progress. A true leader must possess the character, competence, capacity and compassion to make sacrifices for the good of the people,” he said.

He stressed that Nigeria’s future rests on leaders who prioritise security, education, job creation and strong institutions.

“Nigeria’s future depends on leaders committed to safeguarding lives, investing in education, creating opportunities and building effective institutions,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor urged the students to take their education seriously and actively participate in the democratic process.

“I encouraged the students to see themselves not merely as spectators but as agents of change. Through active participation in the democratic process, they have the power to enthrone leaders with integrity and the capacity to propel our nation forward,” he said.

As part of his support for education, Obi presented a cheque of ₦15 million to the university to support its educational programmes.

“Investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to develop the human capital necessary for national progress,” he added.

Obi said raising responsible and visionary leaders remains essential to building a better Nigeria.
