The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to using recovered proceeds of crime to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector following the formal handover of recovered assets by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Federal Ministry of Education.
The assets, which will be distributed to educational institutions across the country, are expected to improve learning infrastructure, expand access to quality education and enhance students’ welfare.
Receiving the items, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the handover reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to investing recovered public assets in education and human capital development.
“This restitution is another demonstration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to education, human capital development and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The minister said the recovered assets would be redirected to support learning infrastructure and improve the welfare of students across the country.
“Recovered assets are being redirected to improve learning infrastructure, expand access to quality education and enhance students’ welfare.”
Alausa also commended the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for ensuring that assets recovered by the Commission are put to productive national use.
“I commend the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for ensuring that recovered assets deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.”
The minister recalled that previous recoveries had already contributed to major education initiatives.
“Previous recoveries supported the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and provided seed funding for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).”
During the handover, the EFCC transferred 501 double-decker bed frames, 939 mattresses and 12 wooden beds with mattresses recovered during Operation Eagle Flush.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the items would be deployed transparently across educational institutions to strengthen infrastructure and improve learning outcomes nationwide.
