Malami Unveils Plan to Boost Kebbi Economy Through Local Processing

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami, has unveiled an economic plan aimed at boosting the state’s economy through agriculture, local processing and border commerce.

In a statement outlining the party’s vision for the state, the ADC said Kebbi should no longer be treated “merely as a producer of raw agricultural goods while greater value and better jobs are created elsewhere.”

According to the party, Malami and his running mate, Musa Zagi, will pursue a practical economic programme built around agriculture, border commerce and local processing.

The ADC said the plan includes strengthening enterprise, public services and infrastructure in Birnin Kebbi to support the state’s growing capital, while connecting agriculture, fisheries and tourism in Argungu with modern storage, processing, transportation and wider markets.

Across Zuru and surrounding communities, the party said it would expand opportunities in farming, livestock production, small-scale manufacturing and youth-led businesses.

“The objective will be clear: Kebbi will produce more, process more and retain more of the wealth generated by its people,” the statement said.

The party also pledged to improve farmers’ access to inputs, irrigation, storage facilities and markets, while creating opportunities for young people in food processing, logistics, packaging, technology and cross-border trade.

It added that women-led businesses and cooperatives would receive stronger support to help them expand beyond subsistence operations.

The ADC said its Kebbi economic agenda would be aligned with the Atiku Abubakar–Rotimi Amaechi national development agenda.

The party said it would “replace seasonal promises with measurable production targets, functioning value chains and policies that increase household income.”

It maintained that Kebbi possesses the land, strategic location and human resources needed to drive sustainable economic growth.

“Kebbi will not remain rich in potential while its people struggle for opportunity,” the statement said.

The party added that it would “turn the state’s land, location and hardworking population into prosperity that reaches ordinary families.”
