President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years.
Their second term will commence on October 20, 2026, following their initial appointments by President Tinubu on October 20, 2023.
Announcing the renewal, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President had expressed confidence in the two media executives to continue advancing the mandates of their respective organisations.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu urged the two chief executives to “justify his confidence in them” by continuing to demonstrate commitment to their organisations’ mandates.
The President further charged them to sustain their commitment to “the promotion of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Onanuga said Dembos and Ali had been given another opportunity to build on their achievements since assuming office in 2023.
“President Tinubu has renewed the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria for another three-year term,” the statement said.
“President Tinubu first appointed Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos of the NTA and Ali Mohammed Ali of the NAN on October 20, 2023. Their second term will begin on October 20, 2026,” it added.
Dembos, a native of Yola, Adamawa State, is a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
He joined the NTA as an announcer at its Kaduna station after completing his National Youth Service in 1989 and rose through the ranks to serve as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.
He later served as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre before retiring in 2017. He subsequently served as Executive Director of Marketing at the NTA.
Ali is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than 30 years of experience in journalism and media management.
The statement described him as having “a keen interest in media evolution and content development in a digital world,” particularly in meeting the needs of a diverse population through alternative news feeds.
Ali holds a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
The President’s decision means both media executives will continue to lead the NTA and NAN through October 2029.
