President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 25th anniversary of his assumption of office as Head of Government and Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Tinubu, in a statement on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, described the milestone as historic, noting that Modi first assumed office in Gujarat in 2001 and has remained in public service for 25 years.
The President said Modi’s quarter-century of uninterrupted public service was a significant achievement, particularly in the world’s most populous country.
“A quarter-century of unbroken leadership is a rare achievement in any democracy. In the world’s most populous nation, it is a powerful testament to the enduring confidence the Indian people have placed in him,” Tinubu said.
He commended Modi’s leadership in areas including infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation, saying his tenure had contributed to India’s economic development.
“Across these 25 years, Prime Minister Modi has led with vision and an unwavering commitment to development,” Tinubu said.
The Nigerian President also highlighted the growing strategic partnership between Nigeria and India, recalling Modi’s State Visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on him the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger.
According to Tinubu, the visit strengthened bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, health, education and technology.
He said Nigeria and India, as fellow democracies and leading voices of the Global South, shared a commitment to a fairer and more representative international order.
“I remain confident that, under his continued leadership, the bonds of friendship between our peoples will grow ever stronger,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu wished Modi good health, continued strength and success in his service to the people of India.
He conveyed the congratulations on behalf of the Nigerian government and people and on his own behalf.
