‘Drugs Don’t Make Pain Go Away’ — Tonto Dikeh Tells Nigerians

Evangelist and actress Tonto Dikeh has urged Nigerians to reject drug abuse, warning that substances do not truly take away emotional pain but often create deeper problems for those who rely on them.

Dikeh shared the message on her social media page while reflecting on the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of seeking healthier ways to deal with pain, trauma and difficult experiences.

The evangelist, who has previously spoken publicly about personal struggles and the need for emotional healing, encouraged Nigerians battling difficult circumstances not to turn to drugs as an escape.

She wrote: “I’ve been down this dark road, and I can tell you firsthand that substances don’t make the pain go away.”

Dikeh added that drug use could worsen a person’s situation rather than provide lasting relief, urging those facing emotional or psychological challenges to seek help and support.

Her message comes amid growing concerns over substance abuse among young people in Nigeria, with health professionals and advocacy groups repeatedly warning about the physical, mental and social consequences of drug dependence.

The actress called on Nigerians to make informed choices and to support individuals struggling with addiction instead of condemning them.

She also encouraged people experiencing pain or emotional distress to speak with trusted family members, counsellors, medical professionals or faith leaders rather than relying on drugs.

Dikeh’s appeal has sparked conversations among her followers, many of whom praised her for using her platform to promote awareness and discourage substance abuse.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and other stakeholders have continued to intensify campaigns against drug abuse, urging Nigerians to say no to illicit substances and seek timely assistance when necessary.
