The Federal Government has released the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) to non-academic staff of all federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education, covering January to August 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, announced the payment, saying it was part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen industrial harmony and ensure the effective delivery of quality education.
Alausa said the payment reflected the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to improving the welfare of workers in the tertiary education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The release of CONTA underscores the administration’s recognition that the welfare, motivation and commitment of both academic and non-academic personnel are essential to the stability and effective functioning of tertiary institutions,” he said.
He said the payment was also part of efforts to address legitimate welfare concerns and minimise disruptions to academic activities across the country.
“The payment is part of the Federal Government’s sustained efforts to address legitimate welfare concerns, promote industrial harmony and minimise disruptions to academic activities across the nation’s tertiary education system,” Alausa said.
The announcement follows the commencement of payment of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CATA) to academic staff on Monday.
According to the minister, the payment of both allowances demonstrates the government’s efforts to meet its obligations to personnel across the tertiary education sector.
“These payments reaffirm the administration’s commitment to strengthening the institutions responsible for producing the skilled workforce required to drive Nigeria’s socioeconomic development,” he said.
Alausa assured workers and other stakeholders that the Ministry would continue to engage relevant unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues.
“We will continue to engage relevant unions, institutional authorities and other stakeholders to address outstanding issues, promote mutual understanding and foster a stable, productive and globally competitive tertiary education system,” he said.
The minister commended academic and non-academic staff, heads of institutions, unions and other stakeholders for their patience, understanding and continued cooperation with the Federal Government.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to policies and initiatives that prioritise staff welfare, institutional stability, human capital development and improved learning outcomes.
“The Federal Government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations, addressing legitimate outstanding issues and sustaining reforms that will strengthen Nigeria’s education system and advance the human capital development objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Alausa said.
