Tinubu Extends Immigration Service CG’s Tenure to June 2028

President Bola Tinubu has approved an 18 month extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, extending her stay in office until June 30, 2028.

The President also approved an 18 month extension for the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, whose tenure will now end on May 26, 2028.

The approvals followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both services and give the relevant board sufficient time to appoint successors.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extensions were approved to ensure continuity in the leadership of the two services.

President Tinubu commended Nandap and Nwakuche for the reforms recorded under their leadership, urging them to sustain the progress made.

The President also charged the two service chiefs to “consolidate these gains,” according to the statement.

The extension will allow Nandap to remain in office until June 30, 2028, while Nwakuche will continue in his position until May 26, 2028.

Nandap was nominated by Tinubu as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.

Nwakuche was nominated as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.

The Presidency said the extension followed the Interior Minister’s recommendation and would give the relevant board adequate time to appoint successors to both service chiefs.
