A fire outbreak in the afternoon swept through an open-space recycling site in Abule Egba on Lagos, on Monday ,spreading to nearby buildings, including a residential bungalow and a mini church, before firefighters brought the situation under control.
Firefighters from Agege and Abesan stations rushed to the scene after the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call at 1:08 pm.
Initial investigations indicate that the fire began in an open area used for informal recycling before spreading to nearby buildings. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, preventing further destruction.
One adult woman reportedly went into shock during the incident but was quickly attended to and stabilized by emergency responders. No fatalities were reported.
Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the response was swift and effective.
“The fire has been successfully extinguished, and no casualties were recorded ,our personnel acted promptly, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the outbreak,” Adeseye said.
She also urged residents to follow fire safety regulations, particularly in areas where recycling and other activities involving flammable materials take place, to prevent similar incidents.
The fire service reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos State.
