Nigerian cinemas saw a major boost over the weekend as Oversabi Aunty delivered one of the strongest box office debuts of the year, pulling in N99.8 million and ranking as the second highest-grossing film of the weekend.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s opening performance also places it as Nollywood’s second biggest opening of 2025 so far, signalling continued audience enthusiasm for locally produced titles and steady cinema traffic nationwide.
Reacting to the milestone, FilmOne Entertainment thanked moviegoers across West Africa for turning out in large numbers.
“Thank you, West Africa. Oversabi Aunty recorded an opening weekend box office figure of N99.8 million, making it one of Nollywood’s top-performing releases this year,” the distributor said in a post on Instagram.
Industry watchers say the strong debut reflects a growing appetite for Nigerian stories on the big screen and suggests sustained momentum for theatrical releases as the year progresses.
With its impressive start, Oversabi Aunty is expected to maintain visibility in cinemas and remain a key contender at the box office in the coming weeks.
