The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed that a Savvy Marine passenger boat was involved in a fatal accident near the Igbologun axis of the Lagos waterways on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, LASWA’s Head of Public Affairs, Wuraola Alake, said the boat was travelling from Ilashe Beach House when the incident occurred at about 8:35 p.m.

According to the authority, the boat collided with a submerged object along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun water channel, causing it to capsize.

“The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) confirm a boat mishap involving a Savvy Marine passenger boat at approximately 8:35 p.m. along the Nigerdock axis of the Igbologun water channel,” the statement said.

LASWA disclosed that four passengers were rescued alive and taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.

“As of the time of this report, four passengers have been successfully rescued and transported to a nearby hospital. Sadly, six other passengers were recovered dead at the scene,” Alake added.

The authority noted that preliminary findings suggest the accident was caused by a collision with a submerged object, while a full investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident.
