Peter Obi Donates N10m to Nursing College, Urges Youths to Reject Tribal Politics

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has donated an additional ₦10 million to the Faith Foundation College of Nursing Sciences, Nsukka, Enugu State, to support ongoing projects at the institution.

Obi made the donation during a visit to the college, where he inspected projects currently under construction and expressed satisfaction with the progress being made.

The former governor said his intervention was part of his continued commitment to supporting education and healthcare development, particularly the training of competent health professionals who would contribute to improving healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

According to Obi, the proprietor of the institution disclosed during the visit that his earlier financial support had encouraged the college to embark on several of the projects now under construction.

“The proprietor shared something deeply encouraging. He revealed that it was my initial support to the institution, particularly my earlier donations, that gave them the confidence to commence many of the projects now taking shape,” Obi said.

He described the development as an indication of the impact that targeted investments in education and healthcare could have on institutions and communities.

“In continuation of my commitment to improving healthcare and supporting the training of quality health professionals, I presented the institution with an additional cheque of ₦10 million to support the ongoing projects,” he said.

Obi also assured the management of the college that his support would continue until the vision behind the ongoing projects was fully realised.

“I assured them of my continued support until the vision is fully realised,” he said.

He stressed the importance of investing in institutions that are involved in training healthcare professionals, noting that improving the country’s healthcare system requires sustained investment in human capital and educational infrastructure.

Obi later joined participants at the 68th Annual Conference of Anglican Youths at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Nsukka, where he challenged young Nigerians to take greater responsibility for the country’s future.

Addressing the youths, he said the responsibility of building a better Nigeria could not be left solely to politicians or government officials.

“I reminded them that the Nigeria we desire cannot become a reality unless they actively participate in shaping its future,” Obi said.

He urged the youths to become more involved in civic and political affairs, stressing that their decisions and actions would significantly influence the direction of the country.

Obi particularly warned against allowing ethnic, religious and linguistic considerations to determine political choices.

“I urged them to reject politics based on tribe, religion, or language,” he said.

He instead called on Nigerians to assess political leaders based on their ability, character and commitment to public service.

“Instead, insist on electing leaders of proven character, competence, capacity, integrity, and ethical values,” he told the youths.

According to him, the quality of leadership in Nigeria is also influenced by the expectations and standards citizens set for those seeking public office.

“Our future depends not only on the leaders we produce but also on the standards we demand,” Obi said.

He maintained that citizens have a responsibility to demand accountability and insist on leadership that prioritises the interests of the people.

Obi also encouraged the youths to look beyond immediate political interests and consider the long-term consequences of their choices on future generations.

He said Nigeria could make meaningful progress when citizens collectively prioritise competence, integrity, accountability and service over ethnic and religious sentiments.

The former governor said young Nigerians, who constitute a significant part of the country’s population, must recognise their role in shaping the nation and participate actively in efforts to transform it.

He added that building a prosperous and functional Nigeria would require collective action, responsible citizenship and leaders who are committed to serving the public interest.

“Together, we can build the New Nigeria that is POssible,” Obi said.
