Content creator Peller has addressed the backlash that followed his decision to gift his girlfriend, Jarvis, a luxury Mercedes-Benz AMG for her birthday, while purchasing a different car for his mother.
The TikToker surprised Jarvis with the high-end vehicle shortly after the couple reconciled from a brief breakup. However, critics questioned his priorities, noting that the car bought for his mother was less luxurious.
Responding during a live session, Peller dismissed the criticism and shared his perspective on the situation. According to him, buying a car for one’s mother is often seen as a responsibility or obligation, whereas gifting such an expensive item to a girlfriend is viewed as a bold statement of wealth and generosity.
He disclosed that his mother had originally asked for a Toyota valued at about ₦9 million because of its affordable maintenance. Instead, he chose to buy her a Hyundai reportedly worth ₦20 million.
In his words: “Being rich is not about what you buy for yourself or even for your mum. If you buy for your mum, people will say it’s normal because she raised you and deserves it. That one is expected.”
He continued, “Buying your girlfriend a car is what really shows people you have money. My mum wanted a ₦9 million Toyota because of maintenance costs, but I bought her a ₦20 million Hyundai instead. If I had bought exactly what she asked for, people would still complain. It’s like I’m the first person to buy a car for his girlfriend. It’s just a small car for my baby. I love my baby.”
