Alia Commends Security Agencies Over Response to Ukum Attack

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has commended security agencies for their swift response to a deadly attack on communities in Ukum Local Government Area by suspected armed herders.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday in Mbaterem, Ayaba, Ikpur, Yina, Aboajio and Ukpen communities in Mbazun Ward, where several people were killed and others injured.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor sympathised with families of the victims and those injured in the attack.

Alia said his administration would continue to support security agencies in their efforts to protect lives and property across the state.

“I took an oath to protect our people, and I will not relent. I must appreciate the fact that the Federal Government is advancing a lot of support for us to tackle these acts of terrorism,” the governor said.

He warned those behind the attacks against attempts to destabilise the state, insisting that Benue people would not be forced off their land through violence.

“Benue lands for Benue people. Anyone who thinks attacking us will intimidate us to leave the land is making a mistake,” he stated.

The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies to help tackle criminal activities.

“Like I always say, you must all remain vigilant and always ensure that you forward information on suspicious movements around you. This is the only way we can be able to effectively tackle these criminals,” he said.

Alia further directed security operatives to sustain surveillance in strategic locations across the state and assured residents that his administration remains committed to ensuring the safety of residents.

“We will not relent in our efforts to protect our people and secure every part of Benue State,” he added.
