The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has condemned the abduction of Mrs. Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons by armed gunmen in Ibadan.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday at Elewura-Challenge in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
According to reports, the attackers trailed the vehicle conveying Mrs. Adelabu and her children from their residence before intercepting them around 7:30 a.m. and whisking them away to an unknown location.
In a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Olawale Sadare, the party described the incident as disturbing and called for urgent action to address worsening insecurity in the state.
Sadare urged the state government to intensify collaboration with security agencies to curb rising cases of kidnapping and violence.
“We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the federal, state and local government levels to take a critical look at the security architecture of Oyo State with a view to tightening all loose ends and ensuring maximum protection of lives and property of citizens regardless of status,” he said.
He also raised concern over recurring abductions in the state.
“This incident is happening at a time when members of the public are increasingly worried over unresolved kidnapping cases involving schoolchildren, teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, and staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria in Idi-Ayunre,” Sadare added.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying investigation had commenced to track down the perpetrators.
Police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, urged calm among residents.
“We have commenced investigation into the incident. Residents are advised to remain calm while efforts are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction,” he said.
