APC Slams Amaechi Over Mother’s Medication Claim

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over his claim that he could not afford medication for his late mother before her death at 89.

In a statement on Sunday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, questioned Amaechi’s ability to support himself outside public office.

The party recalled Amaechi’s earlier statement that he had become broke and hungry to the point that his wife was feeding him.

Morka said Amaechi’s latest claim about his mother’s medication further exposed what the party described as his financial struggles since leaving public office.

“For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family,” the APC said.

The party added, “Just three years out of office, he has become destitute, unable to fend for himself and his loved ones.”

The APC further described Amaechi as “a loafer, aimless and irresponsible” for allegedly being unable to earn a living outside government patronage.

It also criticised his ambition to become vice president in the 2027 election, alleging that he was seeking a return to public office to continue benefiting from public resources.

“The same Rotimi Amaechi now asks Nigerians to make him vice president come 2027 so he can continue leeching on public treasury and keep the predatory lifestyle he has grown accustomed to,” the party said.

The APC declared, “The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi.”

The party also argued that Amaechi’s own statements had raised questions about his suitability for the vice-presidential position.

“There can be no better speaker of Rotimi Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of vice president than Rotimi Amaechi himself,” it said.

The statement was signed by Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the APC.
