Dangote Cuts Petrol Price While Expanding African Footprint in Burundi

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced its gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by N25 per litre, lowering the ex-depot rate from N799 to N774 per litre. The price reduction, which takes effect immediately, strengthens the competitiveness of locally refined fuel against imports, which currently land at around N793 per litre.

“This adjustment reflects our commitment to making locally refined products more accessible and competitive while supporting Nigeria’s energy security,” the refinery said in a statement to marketers.

The move coincides with Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote’s latest efforts to expand the conglomerate’s footprint across Africa.

Dangote recently visited Burundi to meet President Évariste Ndayishimiye, accompanied by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in discussions aimed at fostering industrial and economic partnerships.

In the meeting Dangote emphasized “Our focus is to invest heavily within Africa, and Burundi is central to that vision, We are exploring key sectors such as agriculture, cement production, power generation, and infrastructure, with the goal of building mutually beneficial partnerships that drive shared prosperity.”

Dangote revealed that two technical teams representing the Burundian government and the Dangote Group have been set up to identify priority projects and develop viable investment plans.

A Burundian government official noted, “This engagement is a significant step in attracting large-scale private-sector investment to Burundi and aligns with our broader strategy for sustainable economic transformation.”

Analysts say the developments highlight Dangote’s dual strategy of promoting industrial growth at home through competitive refining while extending the group’s influence as a leading African investor. The petrol price reduction is seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen the group’s position in regional energy markets.
