FG Announces AfCFTA-Korea Startup Programme for Nigerian Entrepreneurs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 AfCFTA Startup Acceleration and Partnership Programme, an initiative of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Korea-Africa Foundation.

According to the ministry, the programme is designed to deepen economic cooperation, innovation, trade, and private-sector partnerships between African countries and the Republic of Korea within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, revealed that approximately 30 startups from across Africa would be selected to participate in the programme.

“This initiative underscores the growing economic and commercial cooperation between Africa and the Republic of Korea, while creating new opportunities for African entrepreneurs to scale their businesses globally,” the statement said.

The ministry explained that eligible startups operating in strategic sectors such as fintech, digital commerce, manufacturing, logistics, and agricultural value chains would benefit from a comprehensive support package, including business acceleration services, mentorship, capacity-building initiatives, market access opportunities, and investment networking engagements in the Republic of Korea.

“The programme seeks to strengthen innovation-driven entrepreneurship and foster mutually beneficial commercial partnerships between African startups and Korean stakeholders,” he stated.

The ministry urged qualified Nigerian entrepreneurs and startup enterprises with scalable and innovative business models to leverage the initiative to expand their market reach and strengthen cross-border commercial collaboration.

“This initiative represents a strategic platform for Nigerian startups to access international business networks, attract investment opportunities, and contribute to sustainable economic growth and regional integration,” the statement added.

Interested applicants were advised to obtain detailed information on eligibility requirements, application procedures, and programme guidelines through the official AfCFTA programme portal.

The ministry noted that applications for the programme will close on May 31, 2026.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to continental economic integration, innovation, and youth-driven enterprise development, the ministry said the Federal Government would continue to support strategic international partnerships aimed at advancing national and regional economic objectives.

“Nigeria remains committed to supporting initiatives that empower young entrepreneurs, encourage innovation, and strengthen Africa’s position within the global economy.”
