The Federal Government has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their bronze medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the achievement as a proud moment for the country.
In a congratulatory message issued on Saturday, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized the team’s performance throughout the tournament brought joy and inspiration to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
“On behalf of the Federal Government and all Nigerians, I congratulate the Super Eagles on winning the bronze medal at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Your performance throughout the tournament was a source of pride and joy for our nation,” the Minister said.
He noted that the Super Eagles upheld Nigeria’s rich football tradition with determination and resilience, adding that their journey from the group stages to the final whistle in Casablanca reflected unity and belief.
“From the group stages to the final whistle in Casablanca, you showed courage, unity, and belief in one another, you didn’t just play,you inspired millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora,” Idris stated.
According to the Minister, the bronze medal further strengthens Nigeria’s impressive record in AFCON history and reaffirms the country’s status as a leading football nation on the continent.
“Securing a bronze medal adds to Nigeria’s remarkable AFCON legacy and shows that our team competed with discipline and an unbroken fighting spirit, even against strong opponents,” he said.
The Minister also praised the coaches, support staff, and players for their commitment and sacrifice in representing the nation.
“To our coaches, support staff, and every player who wore the green and white jersey, thank you for your dedication and sacrifice. You reminded us that true strength lies in teamwork, belief, and pride in our nation,” he said.
While acknowledging that the ultimate prize eluded the team, Idris emphasized that the achievement was earned with honour.
“Although the ultimate prize may have eluded you this time, this bronze medal was earned with dignity and effort. It belongs not only to you but to every Nigerian who cheered, believed, and stood by you throughout the competition,” the Minister added.
He urged the Super Eagles to build on the success as they prepare for future competitions.
“Celebrate this achievement with pride, and let it strengthen your resolve for future challenges. You have done well, and Nigeria applauds you,” he said.
