FG Moves to Digitise Education Data With New NEDI System

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced plans to convene a high-level stakeholder workshop on the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) on Wednesday, May 14, 2026, in Abuja.

In a statement issued on May 13, the Ministry said the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to develop a unified national education data system that will integrate and harmonise data across basic, secondary, tertiary institutions, as well as relevant agencies and examination bodies.

“The workshop is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop a unified and reliable national education data system that will integrate and harmonise data across Basic, Secondary, and Tertiary education,” the statement said.

According to the Ministry, the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) is designed to serve as a central platform for education data management, improving access to accurate information for planning and policy formulation.

“The Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) is designed to serve as a central platform for education data management in Nigeria, providing accurate and timely information to support evidence-based policy making,” it added.

The Ministry disclosed that it has engaged Ernst & Young (EY) to support the design of the system architecture and integration framework for the nationwide platform.

“As part of the development process, the Ministry engaged Ernst & Young (EY) to support the design of the system architecture and integration framework that will connect key education data sources nationwide,” the statement noted.

The planned workshop will bring together stakeholders from across the education sector, government institutions, development partners, examination bodies, and the media.

“The workshop will bring together key stakeholders to present the architecture and design framework of the platform, showcase progress made, demonstrate how institutions and agencies will integrate into the system, and obtain stakeholder feedback ahead of full implementation,” the Ministry said.

The initiative, according to the Ministry, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reflects efforts to build a more transparent and technology-driven education system.

“The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to building an innovative, accountable, and technology-driven education sector,” the statement added.

It further noted that the platform is expected to improve coordination, planning, and service delivery across Nigeria’s education system.
