The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Nigeria’s education sector through stronger collaboration with state governments, data-driven planning and sustainable reforms aimed at improving learning outcomes across the country.
Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, made the commitment while addressing Honourable Commissioners of Education at an Executive Retreat, where he stressed that effective education reform depends on robust Federal-State partnerships, reliable education data and bold leadership.
“Our education transformation agenda begins with strong Federal-State collaboration, reliable data and bold leadership,” Alausa said.
He noted that the deployment of the National Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) and the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS) would improve planning and service delivery across the education sector.
“With NEDI and DNEMIS, we are laying the foundation for better planning, stronger accountability, more efficient resource allocation and evidence-based decision-making across the sector,” he said.
The minister urged state governments to take full advantage of the World Bank-supported HOPE Education Programme, which provides US$552 million in performance-based financing to strengthen education governance, improve teacher quality and enhance learning outcomes.
“The HOPE Education Programme presents a unique opportunity for states to strengthen education governance, improve teacher quality and deliver better learning outcomes,” he said.
“I encourage all participating states to complete the required implementation processes so they can access the available funding and accelerate reforms in their education systems.”
Alausa reaffirmed that the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) remains focused on expanding foundational learning, strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, advancing digital learning and ensuring sustainable financing for the sector.
According to him, “NESRI remains our roadmap for renewing the education sector. We are expanding foundational learning, strengthening TVET, promoting STEM education, advancing digital learning and ensuring sustainable financing for education.”
He said the Federal Government would continue to work with states and development partners to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
“We cannot transform education in isolation. Success depends on close collaboration with state governments, development partners and all stakeholders,” he said.
“Our goal is to build an inclusive, resilient and globally competitive education system that equips every Nigerian learner with the knowledge and skills required for national development.”
