FG Warns Parents Against Directives From Unauthorised National PTA

The Federal Government has warned parents and guardians against relying on directives or communications issued by an unauthorised association operating as the National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Federal Unity Colleges.

The Federal Ministry of Education (FME), in a statement issued on Monday, said the association is not recognised or authorised by the Ministry and does not represent the individual PTAs in the 118 Federal Unity Colleges across the country.

The Ministry said the association “has no mandate to speak on behalf of the Colleges, their PTAs, parents or guardians.”

It added that “any statement, directive, appeal or communication issued by the association has no official standing and should be disregarded by the public.”

The Ministry urged parents and guardians to be cautious about information coming from the group and advised them to rely only on verified government channels.

According to the FME, parents and guardians should “rely exclusively on official communications from the Federal Ministry of Education and the management of their respective Federal Unity Colleges on matters concerning schools, students and academic activities.”

The Ministry’s clarification comes as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced nationwide.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards are in their respective Federal Unity Colleges as the new academic session gets underway.

The Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the effective administration of the Federal Unity Colleges and the welfare of students.

Alausa said the Ministry remains committed to “providing students with a safe, conducive and supportive environment for learning and overall development throughout the academic session.”

The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated that only communications from the Ministry and the management of the respective Federal Unity Colleges should be treated as official on matters affecting the schools, students and academic activities.

The Ministry therefore urged parents, guardians and members of the public to disregard directives issued by the unrecognised association and seek clarification through official channels whenever necessary.
