Ghana Appoints Hamamat Montia as Cultural Ambassador for Shea Butter

The Ghana Ministry of Tourism has appointed model and shea butter producer, Hamamat Montia, as the country’s Cultural Ambassador for Shea Butter, in recognition of her years of advocacy and promotion of the product both locally and internationally.

The appointment was announced by the ministry, citing Montia’s consistent efforts to promote shea butter as a key Ghanaian export and cultural product on the global stage.

Montia recently gained widespread international attention after a viral video showed American streamer IShowSpeed visiting her shea butter museum, an event that exposed millions of viewers worldwide to Ghana’s culture and shea butter industry.

Speaking on the appointment, Minister of Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, commended Montia for elevating shea butter beyond local markets while empowering women involved in its production.

“Hamamat has promoted shea butter and elevated it to the global stage while championing the empowerment of women who produce it,” the minister said.

“Through her work, she has showcased the richness of Ghana’s heritage, creativity, and natural resources to the world.”

The ministry also announced that musician Noella Wiyaala will join Montia as part of the initiative, using her influence, artistry, and platform to further promote Ghana’s shea butter industry internationally.
