Heavy Security Deployed in Abuja Ahead of APC National Convention

Security personnel have been strategically deployed across key locations in Abuja, including Eagle Square, as authorities implement tight security measures ahead of the 2026 national convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

At the Eagle Square venue, heavily armed operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, along with other paramilitary agencies, have been stationed to ensure security throughout the two-day event.

Several major roads leading to the venue were blocked, with traffic redirected, leaving many commuters to walk considerable distances as movement within the city was affected by the heightened security presence.

The convention is expected to host over 8,000 delegates from across the 36 states and the FCT. Among those anticipated are Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 32 state governors, and other top party leaders.

The APC has indicated a preference for consensus arrangements, a move aimed at promoting unity and strengthening internal cohesion within the party.

Ahead of the event, Dapo Abiodun, who heads the Convention Venue Committee, conducted an inspection of facilities at Eagle Square to evaluate preparedness.

Also involved in overseeing arrangements, Mohammed Idris, co-chair of the Media and Publicity Committee, emphasised the need for effective coordination among stakeholders to ensure a smooth process.

He called for cooperation among party members, stressing the importance of discipline in both communication and execution. “A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” he said.
