A family dispute involving Big Brother Naija Season 8 winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, has erupted into public controversy after both her parents exchanged conflicting accusations over alleged abuse, drug-related claims and physical altercations within the home.
What started as emotional statements from the reality star’s father has now developed into a deeply personal family crisis playing out in the public eye, drawing widespread reactions across social media.
Hon. Godson Odiniya, father of the BBNaija star, recently accused his daughter of abandoning family values after fame, engaging in reckless spending, undergoing cosmetic procedures and allegedly introducing harmful substances to her younger brother — claims he said contributed to the teenager’s expulsion from school.
Speaking emotionally in viral audio recordings, the distraught father claimed that life changed drastically after Ilebaye emerged winner of BBNaija. According to him, despite years of sacrifice and support, his daughter allegedly became distant and secretive about her earnings after achieving fame.
“She never told me how much she made from the show,” he lamented, describing how he struggled financially to support her dreams before her rise to stardom.
One of the most controversial claims made by Odiniya was his allegation that Ilebaye exposed her 14-year-old brother to drugs. He claimed he repeatedly warned her to stay away from anything capable of negatively influencing the teenager, but alleged that his concerns were ignored.
The father also accused Ilebaye and her mother of constantly opposing him and undermining his authority in the home, adding that years of conflict eventually destroyed his marriage.
According to him, the reality star once advised him to divorce her mother during one of their family disputes. Ironically, he claimed she later questioned him after the marriage officially ended in court.
Odiniya further alleged that his former wife repeatedly abandoned the family at different times, leaving him with the responsibility of raising the children alone.
The controversy deepened when he addressed reports of a physical confrontation between him and Ilebaye. He alleged that every attempt to advise his daughter about her lifestyle, spending habits and cosmetic procedures often ended in insults and arguments.
“A child of 24 or 25 going for surgeries and changing her body worried me,” he said, insisting that his criticisms came from concern for her future.
Narrating the alleged altercation, the father claimed Ilebaye attacked him with household items during an argument, leaving him injured. While admitting he also reacted physically, he defended his actions by saying he acted out of frustration and fear that his daughter was destroying her life.
However, the narrative took another dramatic turn after Ilebaye’s mother, Ms. Lami, publicly broke her silence and strongly rejected the allegations against her daughter.
In an emotional interview, Ms. Lami denied claims that Ilebaye uses drugs or introduced harmful substances to her younger brother. According to her, the accusations were false and carefully crafted to damage the reality star’s public image.
“My daughter is not on drugs and she never introduced drugs to her brothers,” she stated firmly.
Fighting back tears, she accused her former husband of attempting to portray himself as the victim after allegedly assaulting Ilebaye during a family dispute at his residence on Saturday, May 9.
“Yesterday, I was very traumatized. For a father to come out and lie against his child is heartbreaking,” she said.
Ms. Lami further alleged that she and her children had endured years of emotional abuse within the home, insisting that her absence from the family house at different times was linked to the toxic environment.
“We have constantly experienced emotional abuse in that house. Ilebaye is going through a lot emotionally because of her father,” she alleged.
She also claimed her former husband went public with the accusations to divert attention from videos allegedly showing Ilebaye with visible injuries following the altercation.
“Because he assaulted the child, he now came out publicly to play the victim so people would see her as a bad child,” she claimed.
Despite the growing controversy, Ms. Lami maintained that she believes God will eventually reveal the truth behind the family crisis.
“God is in control and He knows why everything is happening at this time,” she added.
As the emotional family drama continues to trend online, Nigerians remain sharply divided over the conflicting claims from both parents. While some sympathize with the father’s frustrations, others have expressed concern over the seriousness of the allegations and the public nature of the dispute.
Amid the accusations, counter-accusations and viral reactions, many are still waiting for Ilebaye herself to publicly address the controversy surrounding her family.
