INEC Restores Four State Assembly Constituencies in Delta, Kogi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states following court judgments directing their reinstatement.

The electoral body announced that the restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II State Constituencies in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II State Constituency in Kogi State.

INEC disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

According to the Commission, political parties will conduct primaries for the restored constituencies between August 21 and 25, 2026.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to notify the public that it has restored four more previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies, three more in Delta and one more in Kogi States, pursuant to the judgment of the courts directing the restoration of the additional constituencies in the two states,” the statement said.

INEC said the primaries for the restored constituencies would hold within the same period scheduled for primaries ahead of the bye-elections in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Dass and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.

The Commission noted that elections into the constituencies have been fixed for September 19, 2026.

“The Commission has fixed 21st–25th August 2026 for the conduct of party primaries for the restored constituencies,” INEC stated.

It added that all timelines and activities contained in the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election would apply to the restored constituencies.

“For the avoidance of doubt, all other timelines and activities contained in the already published revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election shall apply to the restored constituencies,” the Commission said.

INEC also directed political parties to submit notices of their primaries ahead of the scheduled dates.

“Political parties are requested to submit notices of their various primaries to the Commission before their scheduled dates,” the statement added.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to credible and transparent elections across the country.

“The Commission remains committed to ensuring credible, inclusive and transparent electoral processes,” INEC said.
