The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.
The Board disclosed this in a post on its official X handle @jamb_hq on Monday, October 5, following a visit by its Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa.
According to JAMB, the centre will serve Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions without having to travel home solely for the exam.
In its statement, the Board said:
“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination.”
“The centre will provide eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America with easier access to the UTME, particularly those seeking to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.”
JAMB said the initiative is part of its efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world” and will create “greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.”
The Board further stated:
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home.”
“We are working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027.”
“The initiative reflects JAMB’s commitment to making the UTME more accessible, inclusive and globally connected, while opening more pathways for Nigerians in the diaspora to access tertiary education in Nigeria.”
“ More access. More opportunities. A stronger connection to home.”
JAMB added that the proposed centre will “strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system.”
