Nigeria has become the world’s largest education implementation on the DHIS2 platform, with more than 32 million learner records captured through its Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), a major step in the country’s drive to improve education planning through data.
The Minister of Education disclosed this while delivering a keynote address at the 2026 DHIS2 Annual Conference in Oslo, Norway, where he highlighted Nigeria’s progress in building one of Africa’s largest education data systems.
According to the minister, the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), developed in collaboration with UNICEF, now captures data on more than 32 million learners across 204,048 schools in all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the country’s 774 local government areas.
“You cannot improve what you cannot measure. That is why we are building one of the largest education data systems in Africa and using it to transform how we plan, manage and improve education across Nigeria,” he said.
He explained that the platform enables government authorities to identify areas with the greatest need for classrooms, teachers, learning materials and other educational interventions, ensuring that resources are directed to the children and communities that need them most.
The minister further revealed that Nigeria now accounts for 32 million of the 45 million education records hosted globally on the DHIS2 platform, making it the largest education implementation on the platform anywhere in the world.
He said the initiative is a key component of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of building a more efficient, transparent and accountable education system.
“The future of education is not guesswork. It is data, evidence and action,” the minister added.
The Federal Government said it will continue leveraging technology and data-driven decision-making to improve learning outcomes and strengthen education service delivery across the country.
