The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop in Abuja, marking a major step towards the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in policing and law enforcement operations.
The workshop brought together police leaders, technology experts and international partners to discuss how AI can improve security operations, enhance efficiency and support modern policing while ensuring accountability and responsible use.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said AI is already changing the way security agencies operate across the world.
“Artificial intelligence is no longer something to prepare for in the distant future it is already reshaping how security agencies operate around the world.”
According to the IGP, the discussions at the workshop highlighted the urgent need for law enforcement agencies to embrace innovation while maintaining strong governance and public trust.
“The conversations we have had reinforce a simple but urgent truth: we must adapt to emerging technologies if we are to effectively meet the security challenges of our time.”
He commended participants, facilitators and development partners for contributing to the success of the dialogue and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration in the area of technology-driven policing.
“I thank every participant, facilitator, expert and partner for making this dialogue a success. The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to building on this partnership as we modernise policing in Nigeria.”
A key highlight of the workshop was a presentation on the outcomes of the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, where Nigeria was recognised as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot programme.
The IGP also challenged participants to ensure that the knowledge gained at the workshop translates into practical action within their commands and operational areas.
“Let us not allow the knowledge gained here to remain in the conference room. We must take these lessons back to our commands and translate them into action that improves policing and enhances public safety.”
The workshop forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s broader efforts to build a more effective, technology-driven and citizen-focused policing system.
“Our goal is to build a police service that leverages innovation responsibly while remaining accountable to the citizens it serves,” the IGP added.
