Nigeria and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations following the formal presentation of Letters of Credence by Nigeria’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, to the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Yakubu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Qatar, presented his credentials to the Qatari leader at the Amiri Diwan in Doha on Thursday during a ceremony marked by full diplomatic honours, including the inspection of a Guard of Honour.

Following the presentation, the Nigerian envoy held a private audience with the Amir, who welcomed him warmly and reaffirmed Qatar’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Nigeria.

The Amir, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recalled previous high-level engagements between both countries and stressed Qatar’s interest in broadening ties with Nigeria.

During the meeting, Yakubu conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Amir and the people of Qatar, while reiterating Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two nations.

Yakubu added that Nigeria was committed to building on its existing relationship with Qatar and expanding cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, education, security and humanitarian affairs.

He also condoled with the Amir over the recent accident at Ras Laffan Industrial City, describing it as a painful development and expressing Nigeria’s solidarity with Qatar.

“The Government and people of Nigeria extend heartfelt condolences to Your Highness, the Government and the people of the State of Qatar over the unfortunate incident at Ras Laffan Industrial City,” Yakubu said.
