No Prolonged ASUU Strikes Under My Administration Tinubu Says

President Bola Tinubu has said his administration has restored stability to Nigeria’s education sector, declaring that the country has not experienced any prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) since he assumed office.

The President made the remark on Wednesday while inaugurating the newly elected executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

Tinubu congratulated the new NANS President, Comrade Babatunde Akintoye Afeez, popularly known as BabTee, and commended the peaceful transition of leadership.

He said sustained engagement with stakeholders had ended the cycle of prolonged industrial actions that previously disrupted academic calendars, giving students renewed confidence in the nation’s education system.

“It is important to acknowledge the unprecedented achievements of this administration in stabilising Nigeria’s education sector and eliminating the era of prolonged strikes that once destroyed academic calendars,” Tinubu said.

“Notably, under this administration, there have been no prolonged ASUU strikes, a feat that has restored predictability and hope to the academic calendar of Nigerian students.”

The President described the peaceful handover in NANS as a positive example of democratic leadership and urged the new executives to remain committed to the welfare and interests of students.

“I commend the peaceful transition of leadership in NANS. It reflects the democratic values we must continue to uphold in our institutions.”

Tinubu charged the new leadership to be responsible advocates for Nigerian students and work towards strengthening the education sector.

“I am confident that this new NANS leadership will uphold the ideals of Aluta Continua and advance the course of Nigerian students, both at home and in the diaspora.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining reforms aimed at ensuring uninterrupted academic activities and improving the quality of education across the country.
