NRS Seals OPay Offices in Lagos and Abuja Over Alleged Tax Evasion

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has sealed the offices of fintech company OPay in Lagos and Abuja over alleged tax compliance violations.

Officials of the tax authority reportedly shut down the premises on Thursday, citing issues related to Value Added Tax (VAT) and Company Income Tax obligations under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025.

Notices placed at the affected offices indicate that the facilities have been sealed due to alleged tax evasion and will remain closed until the company obtains authorized clearance from the NRS.

According to the notices, the action forms part of ongoing enforcement measures by the tax authority to ensure that companies operating in Nigeria comply fully with statutory tax requirements.

As of the time of filing this report, OPay has not issued an official statement addressing the development.

The move could potentially affect operations of the digital payment platform, which is widely used across Nigeria for transfers, bill payments, and other financial services.

More details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
