Obasanjo’s Viral Interview Sparks Reactions

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has sparked widespread reactions online after appearing on comedian and content creator Isbae U’s popular interview programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Obasanjo’s appearance on the show, released on Saturday, September 19, 2026, has attracted attention largely because of the unusual combination of a former Nigerian president and a programme known for its sarcastic questions, satire and unconventional interviews.

The interview featured several humorous exchanges between Obasanjo and Isbae U, whose real name is Ridwan Abidemi Adebayo.

At the beginning of the interview, Isbae U jokingly introduced Obasanjo as someone who had once worked for him, claiming that he paid the former president’s salary, accommodation at Aso Rock and fed him between 1999 and 2007.

The comedian also joked with Obasanjo after he picked up a glass of water without asking for permission.

“You should have asked for permission before sipping water,” Isbae U told the former president.

Obasanjo played along with the humour, setting the tone for an interview that moved between comedy, Obasanjo’s political past and discussions about Nigerian entertainers.

In another exchange, Isbae U asked Obasanjo how he wanted to be addressed, suggesting names including “Olusegun” and “Baba Iyabo.”

When the comedian called him “Seggey,” Obasanjo jokingly warned him against using the nickname.

The former president also reminded the comedian of his military background when Isbae U challenged him to a one-on-one contest.

“I get rank. I’m a general,” Obasanjo said.

Isbae U responded that he believed he could take on the former military officer one-on-one.

“I think you’re the first soldier I can take one on one,” he said.

Obasanjo immediately took up the challenge, asking, “Do you want to take me one on one right now?”

The comedian later turned his attention to Obasanjo’s departure from Aso Rock after completing his second term as president in 2007.

Isbae U jokingly asked whether Obasanjo “cried hot tears” when he was asked to leave the presidential residence after eight years in office.

The exchange has become one of the widely shared moments from the interview as clips from the programme continue to circulate online.

The conversation also touched on entertainment, with Isbae U testing Obasanjo’s knowledge of popular Nigerian entertainers.

When asked if he knew entertainers including Carter Efe and Poco Lee, Obasanjo said he did not. He also appeared surprised when Don Jazzy was mentioned.

“So, you know people that… that I don’t know,” Obasanjo told the comedian.

Obasanjo subsequently turned the tables on Isbae U by testing the comedian’s knowledge of Queen Elizabeth II.

The former president’s knowledge of the former British monarch contrasted with his unfamiliarity with some of the younger Nigerian entertainment personalities mentioned during the interview.

Another notable part of the conversation involved veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy.

Obasanjo recalled that he initially had little regard for Charly Boy because of his unconventional appearance and lifestyle.

However, he said his perception changed after visiting Charly Boy’s home and seeing how the entertainer cared for his father, the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

Obasanjo said the experience made him reconsider his earlier opinion of Charly Boy and recognise the entertainer’s dedication to his parents.

The interview also featured jokes about Obasanjo’s appearance and Isbae U’s hairstyle, with both men trading playful remarks.

At one point, Obasanjo commented on the comedian’s hairstyle, saying that in his village, women wore their hair in a similar style.

Isbae U responded by making a joke about Obasanjo’s baldness.

“Maybe if you had hair, you would have made your own,” the comedian said.

Obasanjo responded humorously by removing his cap and saying, “Maybe you’re right.”

The former president’s relaxed interaction with the comedian has generated considerable discussion on social media, with many viewers focusing on the unexpected nature of the appearance and the willingness of the former president to participate in the programme’s unconventional format.

Curiosity Made Me Ask is known for its roast-style interviews, provocative questions and humorous exchanges with guests. The programme has featured several Nigerian entertainers, actors and sports personalities.

Obasanjo’s appearance, however, stands out because of his background as a former military head of state and two-term civilian president, making the interview a notable crossover between Nigeria’s political and digital entertainment spaces.

Since the episode was released, clips from the interview have continued to circulate online, with viewers reacting to Obasanjo’s exchanges with Isbae U, his responses to questions about entertainers and his recollections about personalities such as Charly Boy.
