PDP-INEC Suit Adjourned for Judgment

The suit filed by the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been adjourned for judgment.

The case seeks an order directing INEC to recognise the PDP Interim National Working Committee constituted by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

At the hearing, counsel to all parties adopted their respective legal processes, following which the court adjourned the matter. A date for judgment will be communicated by the court.

Meanwhile, the PDP has rejected reports claiming that some of its candidates are threatening legal action against the party’s leadership led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

In a statement signed by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP described the reports as “entirely false” and “nothing more than the product of mischief.”

“There has not been a single complaint, let alone any threat of legal action, by any of our candidates,” the party said.

The statement added: “On the contrary, all the Party’s candidates have remained in constant communication with the leadership and are regularly briefed on ongoing developments.”

The PDP also urged the media and members of the public to ignore what it called unfounded claims.

“We therefore urge the public, particularly media organisations and journalists, to disregard these false reports and rely only on information communicated through the official channels of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement read.

The party further alleged that the reports were being spread by individuals seeking to cause division within its ranks.

“Such rumours are being propagated by ill-wishers and PDP pretenders, who are APC apologists, in a desperate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion,” the PDP stated.

The party maintained that its leadership remains focused on strengthening the organisation and keeping members informed of ongoing developments.
