Printing Industry Can Create Jobs, Boost Economy if United-Mohammed Idris

Nigeria’s printing industry has the potential to create jobs, stimulate economic growth and attract greater government support if stakeholders remain united, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said.

Speaking at the Nigeria Print Industry Stakeholders’ Summit 2026 in Abuja, Idris said the resolution of the leadership crisis in the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria presents a fresh opportunity to reposition the industry for growth and competitiveness.

“The printing industry has enormous economic value and significant employment potential. When stakeholders speak with one voice, the sector will be better positioned to attract government support and policy interventions,” the Minister said.

He urged industry players to build on the recent reconciliation within the Institute and focus on advancing the profession.

“History has given you an opportunity to reposition this industry. Please seize it, work together, and let everyone support the leadership so that collectively you can move the profession forward,” Idris said.

The Minister said his intervention in the CIPPON leadership dispute shortly after assuming office was driven by the belief that dialogue would better serve the industry than prolonged litigation.

He assured stakeholders of the Federal Government’s continued support in strengthening professional standards, improving the operating environment and promoting initiatives that would expand the industry’s contribution to national development.

Idris also called on the Institute’s leadership to embrace inclusiveness and leave past disagreements behind.

“Carry every stakeholder along, irrespective of past disagreements. Inclusive leadership will foster lasting peace and leave a legacy that will strengthen the profession for generations to come,” he said.

The Minister further encouraged practitioners to embrace technological innovation to remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.

Earlier, CIPPON President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Koko T. Clement, said the Institute had made significant progress since the inauguration of its current Governing Council in December 2025 through engagements with government institutions to strengthen regulation and professional standards.

He appealed to members of the profession to sustain the spirit of reconciliation.“Everything we do is for the growth of this Institute, for the benefit of every printer, every packaging professional, and every Nigerian who depends on this industry. We call on all stakeholders to work together in peace and mutual understanding so that what unites us remains greater than whatever may divide us,” Clement said.
