The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has extended its food outreach programme to Osun State, bringing the number of beneficiary states to 31.
The food items were presented on Thursday by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, who represented the First Lady, to the wife of the Osun State Governor, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, for distribution to persons with disabilities, widows and other vulnerable groups.
Launched in March 2024, the Food Outreach Scheme provides direct nutritional support to vulnerable Nigerians as part of the First Lady’s humanitarian interventions.
Tinubu said the initiative complements President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by providing support to Nigerians facing economic hardship.
She explained that two partners provide two truckloads of food items monthly, enabling the initiative to support two states each month.
The First Lady disclosed that the food items distributed in Osun State were donated entirely by an anonymous partner, while acknowledging the contributions of both donors.
“This particular supply we are distributing today in Osun is entirely from our anonymous donor. I thank both partners for their deep generosity and sustained commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in Nigeria,” she said.
Tinubu also announced that Ogun and Akwa Ibom states would be the next beneficiaries of the outreach programme.
She commended Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his wife for their support for the initiative and efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable residents.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, described the food distribution as a humanitarian intervention aimed at supporting less privileged members of society.
He said the initiative complements the state government’s people-oriented programmes introduced since 2023 and assured the First Lady of the state’s continued support.
Mrs Adeleke expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the Renewed Hope Initiative had also supported vulnerable senior citizens, petty traders, agriculture and food security, education and healthcare.
The Food Outreach Scheme is part of the broader humanitarian and social inclusion programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable Nigerians.
