Tinubu Extends Omotayo’s Tenure as NIPSS Director-General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, for a final four-year term.

Omotayo was initially appointed in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, with the Nigerian Senate confirming his appointment in February 2022.

The renewal was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the decision reflects the administration’s confidence in Omotayo’s leadership at Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank.

“The appointment is for a final term of four years,” the statement said.

Professor Omotayo, an expert in environmental sustainability, earned his PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan, where he studied between 1980 and 1990.

He began his academic career at Lagos State University in 1985 and rose steadily through the ranks, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 1992 at the age of 30.

During his time at the university, he held several key leadership positions. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017 and later became Director of the Centre for Planning at the institution before his appointment as Director-General of NIPSS in 2021.

The renewal of his tenure is expected to ensure continuity in the institute’s role in providing strategic policy research and leadership training for Nigeria’s national development.
