Veteran Nigerian singer 2Face Idibia has urged music fans to recognise the unique contributions of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and contemporary superstar Wizkid, cautioning against direct comparisons between the two artists.
Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, 2Face described the ongoing debate as “ridiculous” and disrespectful, noting that it diminishes the legacies of both musicians.
“Fela remains an irreplaceable legend, and Wizkid has carved his own powerful path in the industry. It’s disrespectful to Fela, and at the same time unfair to Wizkid,” he said.
2Face emphasized that Fela and Wizkid belong to different eras and contexts, each leaving a distinct mark on Nigerian and global music. According to the singer, fans should celebrate the achievements of both artists without attempting to rank them against each other.
“Each generation of Nigerian music has produced talents who have shaped our cultural and musical identity. Comparing them directly ignores their individual impact and significance,” 2Face added.
His comments come amid ongoing discussions among fans and industry observers over the influence of Nigeria’s musical icons, highlighting the importance of respecting artistic legacies across generations.
