Authorities in Adamawa State have commenced a detailed investigation after a local Anglican priest lost his life following an overnight assault on a rural community.
The victim, Reverend Emmanuel Ezeokwe, was reportedly struck during the attack which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Zinai Village, Bolki, located in Song Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said the command received a distress report from a resident of the community.
“On the 21st of April, 2026, at about 6:30am, the Command received a report from one Amos Sunday that at about 12:48am, suspected armed men invaded the village and shot the victim,” he stated.
He explained that officers were immediately deployed to the scene but the cleric did not survive.
“Police operatives swiftly moved to the scene, where they found the victim and rushed him to a hospital. He was, however, confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” Nguroje added.
According to him, initial findings suggest the attackers operated under the cover of darkness and fled the area after the shooting.
“Preliminary investigation led to the recovery of three empty shells of AK-47 rifle at the scene as exhibits,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hasaan, has since ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a discreet investigation and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Nguroje noted.
He also called on residents to support the investigation.
“The Command urges members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police by providing useful information that may aid the ongoing investigation,” he said.
Police authorities assured that further updates would be made available as investigations progress.
