The Federal Government has clarified that former Finance Minister Wale Edun and former Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa voluntarily resigned from their positions, countering speculation that they were dismissed.

According to a State House statement issued Wednesday, Edun stepped down citing health concerns, formally submitting his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the announcement of his successor.

In his resignation letter, Edun wrote: “It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda

He emphasizethat, “Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected,” and concluded by wishing the President success, saying, “I wish you and the administration every success in the future.”

The former minister, who recently turned 70, also paid a valedictory visit to the Presidential Villa, where he held a closed-door meeting with the President before departing to focus on private engagements.

Similarly, Dangiwa tendered his resignation and expressed appreciation to the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.

President Tinubu, in the statement, praised both former ministers, noting their “dedicated service and significant contributions” to the administration’s economic reform programme, and wished them “continued success in their future endeavours.”

Edun, a seasoned economist and investment banker, previously worked at Chase Merchant Bank and the World Bank, and later co-founded Stanbic IBTC. Dangiwa, an architect, had earlier served as managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank and held key positions in Katsina State before his ministerial appointment in 2023.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, has been urged to “consolidate ongoing reforms and advance the administration’s fiscal and economic objectives with renewed focus, discipline, and innovation.”

The President is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma to the Senate for confirmation as the new Housing Minister.
