Obi Seeks Global Partnerships to Drive Nigeria’s Growth

presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called for stronger international partnerships, democratic reforms and greater support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to drive Nigeria’s economic growth.

Obi made the call at a high-level roundtable on “Nigeria in 2027 and Beyond” organised by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Berlin, Germany.

The forum brought together policymakers, diplomats, business leaders, development experts and members of the international media to discuss Nigeria’s democratic future and economic prospects.

Obi said Nigeria must deepen collaboration with global partners to boost investment, expand trade, strengthen democratic institutions and create jobs.

He described SMEs as the backbone of every productive economy, stressing that greater investment in the sector is essential for job creation, innovation, wealth creation and sustainable national development.

“Nigeria has all the human and natural resources required to become a prosperous, secure and globally competitive nation. What is required is competent, accountable and compassionate leadership that prioritises investment in people, education, healthcare, productive enterprise, the rule of law and strong institutions.”

Obi said Nigeria’s future depends on deliberate policy choices that prioritise production, economic growth and national unity.

“Nigeria’s future is bright, but only if we make the deliberate choices that will move our country from consumption to production, from poverty to prosperity, and from division to unity.”

He said embracing good governance, fiscal responsibility and productive partnerships with the international community would help restore Nigeria’s economic strength and global standing.

“By embracing good governance, fiscal responsibility and productive partnerships with the international community, we can build an economy that works for all Nigerians and restores our nation’s standing among the comity of nations.”

Obi also welcomed the interest shown by international stakeholders in Nigeria’s future.

“I was encouraged by the thoughtful contributions and genuine interest demonstrated by participants in Nigeria’s future. It underscores the strategic importance of Nigeria and the shared desire to see our nation realise its enormous potential.”

He thanked the European Council on Foreign Relations for the invitation, describing the engagement as an important platform for strengthening international cooperation and building lasting partnerships for Nigeria, Africa and the global community.
