Political leaders from Enugu State have pledged strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing the impact of his administration’s economic reforms and federal backing for the state.
The endorsement was made on Tuesday during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where a delegation led by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah met with the President.
The delegation included former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as well as elder statesman Jim Nwobodo, alongside lawmakers, ministers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders.
President Tinubu, while addressing the delegation, welcomed the show of support and highlighted the impact of his administration’s reforms across the country.
“You have been a transformative leader, and we genuinely appreciate what is evolving in Enugu today in a manner that we are witnessing rapid development of the state,” the President said.
He added, “The results you are outlining, like security, infrastructure, education and health care, are not abstract. They are evidence that reform is working, that difficult decisions are yielding real outcomes and that Nigeria is moving forward.”
Assuring continued collaboration, Tinubu said, “I can assure you we will continue to work together, think together and build together a nation that will be a pride of place for all our citizens.”
On infrastructure and economic growth, the President noted, “On the matter you’ve raised the railway line from Port Harcourt to Enugu, the power sector reforms and infrastructure this is the backbone of economic development. We will do more.”
He also addressed broader governance concerns, stating, “Democracy will survive despite all intimidation. Ignore the naysayers. Stay focused. When you succeed and they are angry, let them be. I do not lose sleep over criticism because we are committed to building a nation of bright hope for our children.”
In his remarks, Governor Mbah said the delegation visited to express appreciation and reaffirm support for the President’s vision.
“This visit is symbolic because it speaks to our shared future and a commitment to progress. We have come to express our deepest gratitude for your engagement and investment in the people of Enugu State,” he said.
Declaring their political stance, Mbah stated, “We state boldly and without ambiguity that this relationship has earned our trust and support. On that basis, Your Excellency, we will stand proudly with you on election day in January 2027.”
He further added, “Mr President, you are a true friend of Enugu State. You broke a long-standing political distance between this region and the federal government, crossing party lines to invest in our state.”
Also speaking, Nnamani commended the partnership between the federal and state governments.
“We have come to say thank you. The great achievements under his leadership would not have been possible without your support. He is making excellent use of your support,” he said.
He concluded with a firm endorsement: “The entire population of Enugu State would have loved to come here to say a big thank you, Mr President. You will benefit tremendously from the support.”
The meeting reflects a growing political alignment in the South-East, as key stakeholders in Enugu State publicly declared their backing for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition in 2027.
