Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Replaces Finance and Housing Ministers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the exit of two ministers and the appointment of new replacements in a move aimed at strengthening governance and economic delivery.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who confirmed that Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, will leave the cabinet.

According to the statement, Edun has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, having previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.

In the housing sector, President Tinubu has named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State pending the confirmation of the new appointee.

The government directed that all handover processes be completed by the close of business on April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Akume said the reshuffle was part of efforts to enhance governance outcomes.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.

He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in making the adjustments, noting that the decision was in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

President Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Akume further conveyed the President’s assurance that reforms within the cabinet would remain ongoing, stating that “the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.”

The reshuffle marks a strategic adjustment within the administration as it seeks to consolidate economic reforms and improve service delivery across key sectors.
